Almost five days after he was struck down on the Good Hope Public Road in Essequibo, five-year-old, Rewel Roberts succumbed yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for his injuries.
On Sunday last, Roberts and his grandfather Delroy Barrow were riding their bicycles on the Good Hope Public Road when both parties allegedly stopped to allow a car to pass.
Barrow said that an excavator was parked on a portion of the road and while he and his grandson stood in the corner waiting for the car to pass them, the boy was struck off his bicycle and thrown in the air. The driver picked up the child and transported him to the Suddie Public Hospital. Later that day doctors recommended that the severely injured boy be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
