East Coast students receive back to school items from police
In an effort to alleviate parents of the financial burden associated with getting their charges
‘A’ Division Commander presenting a book bag to a primary school student
ready for the new school year, ranks from the Grove Police Station donated school bags and a number of other items to nursery, primary and secondary school students.
The children, between the ages of four and 14 years were selected from Garden of Eden, Kaneville and Grove communities on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD). They were presented with the school supplies on Thursday in the Police Station compound.
Sergeant Lorna Adonis, Officer in Charge of the Station, said that the donation was made possible with the assistance of several business communities along the East Bank of Demerara.
“We are giving you back to school hampers in order to help your parents send you back to school. We want to rid the streets of delinquents…we want to empower you with a sound education,” Adonis told the small gathering.
Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken reminded the youths, that they are the future and encouraged them to ‘stick to their books’ regardless of the situation. “Children, you are the leaders of tomorrow and education is very important in all of our lives,” the Commander told the children while distributing the hampers.
He advised the youths to always follow the five basic elements in life. These he identified as “Healthy lifestyles, Cleanliness, Honesty, Being your brother’s keeper and Education.”
