The body of a 47-year-old man, with suspected marks of violence, was found at around 15: 45 hrs yesterday in a house in
Allan Gobin
New Street, Cumberland, East Canje Berbice.
Allan Gobin, the victim, was found lying on his back on a bed without a mattress. Police said that Gobin appeared to have suffered injuries to the head and feet. The victim, who was said to be unemployed and an alcoholic, lived with a cousin, Lalita Indranarine.
According to the distraught woman, she last saw her cousin alive on Wednesday afternoon when he left to take a walk.
The cousin said she thought nothing of it when he failed to return that evening, since he would sometimes sleep at his mother’s house, located a short distance away, when he was drunk.
However, when he failed to return on Thursday, an uncle, David Ramdial, decided to search for him and eventually located his dead nephew.
It was at first assumed that Gobin had died from natural causes until police observed the injuries on the corpse.
One resident said that he had called out to Gobin at around 23:30 hrs on Thursday, after he heard Gobin talking to someone inside the house. According to the resident, Gobin replied: “yea ah gaffing with me idrin,” and continued to talk with the visitor.
The resident reportedly later heard a knocking in the house at around 05:10 hours yesterday, but did not check.
The body was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary.
