A West Coast Demerara man is now left ruing
his judgment after he was fleeced out of his weeding machine yesterday.
Abdul Wahab, 62, of Wallers Delight, explained that his troubles all started on Tuesday.
He had just completed a weeding job at Hague, a nearby village, and was returning home when he was stopped by a man in a car who wanted him to do a job.
“He tell me that his sister has a land in Providence and he wants me to weed it. We exchanged phone numbers.”
The weeder said he was called again by the man and told he would be picked up on Friday morning.
True to his word, the driver came around 07:00 hrs. There was an older man in the car who was introduced as the man’s father.
“We drive to Vreed-en-Hoop and the old man was left there. We stopped at the nearby gas station and the driver asked me to buy a tray of eggs for him.”
Thinking nothing of the request, Wahab said he returned with the eggs and was again sent to buy a newspaper. However, the gas station (Two Brothers) had none.
“I turn around to go to the car but there was no car. It was gone.”
Wahab realized that he had been duped. His weeding machine which was left in the car was also gone.
“I just want to warn others about this so they don’t have to suffer the same thing.”
The weeder has now handed the case over to the police along with the phone number he was given.
