The E-networks partnership with the Guyana Baseball League has unearthed some talent in Guyana and to this end, Guyanese pitcher, Lindani Jamal Anderson, emerged the best on show and will be traveling to the US for a stint there.
In a release from the Guyana Baseball League, the organisation stated, In February 2014 E-networks partnered with the Guyana Baseball League to do a reality Tv show based on the search for a possible talented Guyanese baseball pitcher, little did we know what we would uncover and some uncertainty existed as to whether it was possible to find a diamond in the rough.
We were astounded by the immediate feedback from Baltimore Orioles scout which suggested we were overflowing with talent, declaring a winner was suddenly more challenging as the show will demonstrate, we present Mr. Lindani Jamal Anderson, winner of Season 1 of the E-Networks baseball Star.
Jamal leaves today for the Orioles Academy in Florida and begins an historic journey as the pioneer of homegrown Guyanese baseball players, he will not be alone for long, for the Enetworks baseball star program was not only about providing opportunity for one person but was aimed at assisting all who qualified, to this end four other players were identified by Fred Ferreira “the Shark of the Caribbean” as candidates for the academy in the short future.
The Show E-Networks Baseball Star is now in post-production and will offer a fascinating look inside a sport that is new to all of us here in Guyana.
E-Networks is extremely proud to be associated with the Guyana Baseball League and will continue to support it as baseball grows from strength to strength.
The Guyana Baseball League is extremely grateful to E-Networks for the opportunity and exposure given to baseball and its aspiring players during the competition and is proud to say we are fast becoming a mainstream sport, today belongs to Lindani Jamal Anderson who seized the day and won the heart of the Shark of the Caribbean at the last moment…..
E-Networks broadcasts a wide range of sports including Major League Baseball and it is our great hope to see Jamal take the field for an MLB team and carry the Guyana Colors to greater heights.
Lindani Jamal Anderson, who was born on November 21 1989, informed; “I was always into sports, since my days at Stella Maris primary, especially cricket, carried same passion for cricket in to my secondary school life at Guyana Education Trust College and Marian Academy, after showing great potential at cricket my parents were asked to put me into a cricket club, but knowing them and education, cricket was secondary. I eventually joined DCC, stayed at DCC for about 5 months, then in Feb 2009 left for England to join my bro who attended Cambridge university studying law and economics. I attended Manchester Metropolitan University to do Business Management and Business Administration.”
“Cricket was a great experience for me, my talent shined above the rest, as a young West Indian fast bowler, I was the talk in London, every Friday sports paper carried stories of my wickets, so cricket became a way of survival while I was at university.
I worked as a care worker and cleaner at school hours, cricket was on the weekend, I had trials with MCC young cricketers and the Surrey county team.
I was a net bowler at the Oval and Lords so most the international teams knew my face, I did net bowling for about 3 years, the Pakistan team knows me well cause they thought I was a Muslim because of my name (Jamal).
I graduated from university with Bsc in Business Management and Business Administration.”
“I came back to Guyana in 2012 to be with my Family, I left for Jamaica in early 2013
to play cricket, I was honored to play for the same club as Chris Gayle and also worked for the Courtney Walsh foundation while I was there.
I spent 4 months in Jamaica before returning to Guyana, I joined GCC and took a chance to throw a baseball…. Let’s see how this story develops.”
