DEAR EDITOR,
The pastor has every right to hold firm on his views on homosexuality based on his religious beliefs. However, what he ought not to do is impose those views on others who do not share his beliefs.
To suggest that “homosexuals reside on an island by themselves to spare the multitude from God’s wrath” is most ludicrous. This man of God ought to know that the Bible tells us judge not lest we be judged. And if we are to believe God made us all and is a loving God, surely this would include homosexuals.
Religious leaders and those opposed to homosexuals ought to mind their own business, live their lives according to their beliefs, and leave others to do the same. People’s sexual orientation is a very personal matter.
The hypocrisy surrounding this issue is truly alarming. If the truth be told, it is an open secret many gay people are forced to live a lie – pretending they are heterosexual when they are not. Getting into relationships, living on the down low, and eventually breaking hearts and ruining lives.
It is time Guyanese deal with reality. Homosexuals are here to stay for they are born every day. They are our children, our grandchildren, our brothers and sisters and yes, at times, even our husbands and wives. June Veecock
