DEAR EDITOR,
When a person, especially one who is known nationally, and is always in the news, does something out of character with his or her position, one is severely tempted to ask: What is the motivation, here?
This was the case with Kaieteur News’ columnist, Freddie Kissoon and his employers. Mr. Kissoon wrote a, ‘Letter to the Editor’, who incidentally is Mr. Adam Harris. But the letter is calling the owner, Mr. Glenn Lall’s attention to what he, Mr. Kissoon, sees as a major problem with the proofreading staff, at Kaieteur News, to wit, their lack of proofreading skills.
Mr. Kissoon, in his capacity as a paid columnist and as a professed Liberal (whatever that means to Mr. Kissoon) is berating staff members of Kaieteur News.
In the newspaper!
What is Mr. Kissoon’s real intention here? Is he trying to embarrass the editor, who one would assume, he would take whatever problems he sees occurring in the proofreading section? Is he really trying to get some KN staff fired?
Is Mr. Kissoon looking for an ‘out’ from KN, or trying to ingratiate himself with the owner?
As an example, if Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee, has a problem with his secretary, one does not expect him to take it up in the Press, or with President Ramotar, by way of the Press.
This is certainly not the norm for professionals, especially one who constantly reminds the readers of Kaieteur News of his academic stature and accomplishments – real or imagined.
This episode certainly needs clarification. I hope Editor Adam Harris will make some comment on it.
After all, a gentle reminder to the proofreading staff to investigate, Spelling/Grammar check, on their computers, would most likely solve the problem. Albert R. Cumberbatch, Ph. D.
