Essequibo couple hospitalised after horrific accident
A young Sparta, Essequibo Coast couple remains in critical condition at the Suddie Public

Hospital, several days after the stationary car in which they were sitting, at Colombia was hit by a speeding car, which veered off the Columbia Public Road, on Father’s Day.
“They had just open and close the door when they were hit by a speeding car.”
The incident occurred around 15:55 hours, Sunday afternoon. The injured couple Merene Khan and Danny Latchman, who got married less than a year, were socializing with her mother Salima Khan on Father’s Day, at Columbia.
They had momentarily entered their car PGG2137 when they were hit by a speeding driver, who was purportedly under the influence of alcohol.
It is understood, the driver was proceeding south on the Columbia Public Road in a black car PSS4765 when he approached a Canter truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of PSS4765 lost control of his car and veered off of the road, slamming into the couple’s car and sending it some thirty feet away from where it was parked before hitting a lamp pole and coming to a halt in Khan’s mother yard.
Khan and Latchman were subsequently rescued by family members and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital.
Merene Khan, who worked, at a cafe at Affiance, sustained a broken shoulder. She is said to be crying out for severe pains, while her husband Danny Latchman, whose condition is serious, is said to be suffering from internal bleeding.
He sustained a damaged spleen. “He wouldn’t be able to walk because of the injury to his spleen.”
Doctors attending to the couple, at the Suddie Public Hospital performed emergency surgery on Latchman, Sunday night.
“A huge amount of clot blood doctors removed from him.”
Khan was transferred on Monday to the Oscar Joseph Hospital for an X-ray and is now back at the Suddie Public Hospital resting.
The driver of PSS4765 did not sustain any life threatening injury. He was not taken into custody by the police, according to reports.
