Dear Editor,
You caused to have published in Kaieteur News of June 5, 20I4 on page L2, an article under the caption “President identifies leader of delunct union to sit on Service Commission”. In paragraph 3 of that article the Guyana Labour Union was identified as a defunct union.
You and the nation are aware that the Guyana Labour Union is the first trade union and the second largest union in Guyana which represents efficiently, members in over sixteen branches and sections including the Sea Defence workers in all three counties.
Your release had caused severe damage to the integrity and character of this august body of which the editor had promised faithfully to correct, days have elapsed and no correction surfaced.
I am therefore demanding that a correction be made urgently, failing which this union would be forced to take whatever action we deem necessary to protect the integrity and character of the Guyana Labour Union.
Awaiting your response, Carvil Duncan
Editor’s note: The issue dealt with the appointment of the Public Service Commission. The president nominated three people and one of them did come from a non-existent trade union. Inadvertently, the reporter identified the wrong trade union. We apologise.
