The Corriverton Cricket Club (CCC) has been crowned champions of the Price is Right Supermarket sponsored Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) second division cricket competition when they defeated No. 70 M.Y.O by 137 runs in the final of the competition which was played recently at the Skeldon Community Centre ground.
The easy win for CCC was due to a fine all round performance by Eric Phillips with 43 and 5-27. Batting first CCC compiled a formidable 251 all out in 49.3 overs with consistent batting throughout the innings. Clavern Beresford led the way with 64(7×4), Phillips 43(1×6, 3×4), Jermaine Reid 27, Anthony Seeraj 23 and Imran Jabar 20 being the main contributors.

Bowling for No. 70 M.Y.O Jameel Assad took 3 for 32, while Niazi Khan supported with 2 for 45.
In reply No. 70 M.Y.O were bowled out for 114 in 35.2 overs with Azad Khan 21 and Assad returning to score 20 offering some resistance. Bowling for the CCC Phillips led the way with 5 for 27 off 10 overs with Faoud Bacchus supporting with 3 for 30 also off 10.
At the presentation ceremony, prizes totaling $105,000 and a number of trophies were distributed to the top teams and outstanding individual performers.
The winning CCC team collected $50,000 and the winning Price is Rite trophy, No.70 MYO received $30,000 and trophy for being the runner up. Man of the Match Eric Phillips received $5,000 and one trophy, batsman with the most runs in the competition Trishan Ryan Ramdass of Springlands CC also received $5,000 and a trophy for scoring 428 runs in the tournament, the bowler with the most wickets in the competition was Omesh Kumar of No. 70 Young Star and he received $5,000 and one trophy for his 14 scalps.
There were also awards for the two men of the matches in the semifinals and they were Amzaan Appalsammy of CCC for scoring 97 not out and Niazi Khan of No. 70 M.Y.O for taking 5 for 20 off 9 overs and scoring 26 runs. They received $5,000 each.
Proprietor of the Price is Right Supermarket Mr. Danesh ‘Baiko’ Roopnarine expressed his appreciation to the UCCA for a well organized tournament. He congratulated both teams for reaching the finals and the CCC team for winning the competition. He also promised his continued support to the UCCA in the future.
Treasurer of the UCCA Mr. Bharosay thanked the sponsor for coming on board with the much needed sponsorship. He also expressed hope that clubs and individuals appreciate what is being done and step up their game in the future. .
The tournament saw some 26 teams from No.43 to Crabwood Creek participating in the competition. (Samuel Whyte)
