The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA)/National Sports Commission Annual Table Tennis tournament is set for May 16 and will run until May 26 at the National Gymnasium. The tournament is open to all affiliated members of the GTTA.
Entries close on May 15 and shall be sent to tournament coordinator Linden Johnson. The categories to be contested are; Boys 9 years & under, Girls 9 years & under, Boys 11 years & under, Girls 11 years & under, Boys 13 years & under, Girls 13 years & under, Boys 15 years & under, Girls 15 years & under, Boys 18 years& under, Girls 18 years & under, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, Jnr. Mixed Doubles, 21 years & under open, Women singles and Men Singles.
Players competing in the U-9 category must be born on or after January 1st 2005, in the U-11 division after January 1, 2003, on or after January 1, 2001 for the U-13, on or after January 1, 1999 for the U-15, on or after January 1, 1996 for the U-18 and on or after January 1, 1993 for the U-21.
The tournament will be contested according to the rules of the ITTF. Trophies and medals will be given to the first, second and joint third place winners in all events. Players must agree to compete against any other participating player, and that the participants respect and acknowledge the ITTF Anti-Harassment Policy.
The draw will take place on Thursday May 15 at 17:00 hrs at the National Gymnasium Mandela Avenue and will be made under the supervision of the Technical Committee and Organizing Committee representatives. Stag 1000 DX blue, butterfly white balls will be used.
The singles events will be played in two stages. Groups will be confirmed as necessary, and they will compete on a “Round Robin” system. The first two players of each group qualify for the final Stage where games will be played in a set of seven by a simple elimination system.
Players must finish in the last 16 before they could qualify for the National Championship 2014. There will be an Open Novice Category for beginners and players from new schools in view of encouraging more participation in the sport.
