Guyanese boxers tasted their first defeat in the Wray & Nephew Contender boxing series when local pugilist, Revlon Lake, suffered a fourth round knockout to Jamaican Sakima Mullings when action in that tournament got underway at the Chinese Benevolent Association’s headquarters, Kingston Jamaica, Wednesday evening last.

A report emanating from the Jamaican Gleaner said that Lake seemed slightly more assertive in the early stages of the first round and landed a few good punches. The report said that Mullings was supremely confident and soon settled into his accustomed rhythm where he rattled Lake early in the fourth round with several telling blows.
According to the report, “The Guyanese boxer initially seemed to have recovered his poise after that assault but perhaps he had not shaken off the effects sufficiently, resulting in what turned out to be a relatively easy knockout in the end.”
The three other local pugilists, Dereck Richmond, Howard Eastman and Gladwin Dorway are scheduled to be in action soon and will have their eyes fixed on the top prize of J$2 million. The competition also features boxers from Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados.
