The Region Two Department of Education in conjunction with the Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School, hosted a Science, Mathematics and Technology fair, yesterday.
Under the theme “Providing solution for the 21st Century” the event saw participants showcasing Science and Technology projects from 55 schools, including Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools from areas in the Pomeroon River and Aurora Village, Essequibo Coast.
Regional Education Officer, Baramdai Seepersaud, reminded the pupils and teachers that the Science fair was initiated to give learners the opportunity to utilize their skills, knowledge and expertise under the guidance of teachers to come up with innovative ways to solve crucial and pressing problems in their environment.

Seepersaud added that this year’s Regional and Science fair allows learners to demonstrate their expertise in the areas of pure Science, information technology and other technical and pre- vocational areas, including Agricultural Science and Home Economics.
National Science Coordinator, Petal Jettoo, explained that despite Guyana has successfully brought home all of the Science prizes at the CECS levels.
She said that Guyana still performs poorly in the Science field because the beauty of Science is not explored in depth to aid in providing solutions for the 21st century.
“We suffer because our visions and ideas remain the same.”
Jettoo believes that Science should be taught with its history. She implored both pupils and students to look for new ways in which ideas could be implemented into projects within the classrooms.
The Science Coordinator reminded that Education is here to serve everyone.
Jettoo’s vision is to translate projects into reality. (Yannason Duncan).
