Almost three years after a renowned city drug store owner was found dead at his home, the newly-acquired Automated Fingerprinting Identification System (AFIS) has landed a minibus conductor before the courts to be arraigned for his murder.
Orin Kevin Roberts of Lot 3 ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was yesterday morning brought before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to be indicted for the capital offence.
Murdered: Harold Rachpaul
According to the police, 84-year-old Harold Rachpaul was murdered by Roberts in Georgetown between August 18 and 19 in 2011 during the course of a robbery.
The charge was indictable and he was not required to plead. Roberts is being represented by Attorney Adrian Thompson and prosecuted by Inspector Michael Grant.
Inspector Grant did not reveal the Prosecution’s case against the accused, however, he informed the court that though the investigations are not yet complete, it was through the use of the new fingerprinting technology that investigating ranks were able to pinpoint Roberts as the man who committed the murder.
Roberts’s court hearing concluded in about three minutes when the Chief Magistrate informed him that he was remanded to prison and is expected to be in court on March 24 for report.
