The Guyana Police Force (GPF) will soon take possession of the M.B Tamakay, a floating police station, to operate in the riverain communities. This vessel will enhance the marine patrol efforts of the police.
The M.B Tamakay
Built from marine steel sourced from the United States, the vessel was constructed by Courtney Benn Contracting Services, and for the first time yesterday was released into the Demerara River at the company’s wharf.
Construction of the 70-foot by 20-foot vessel comprising a main deck and two decks complete with billets, commenced last year. There were several delays. There are still some finishing touches to be executed on the vessel before it is handed over to the GPF.
Without revealing the cost to construct the M.B Tamakay, a representative of the company related that it is one of several vessels the Government contracted the company to build. The first of the series to be constructed was a $40M vessel for the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard. Courtney Benn Contracting Services is known for constructing ferries such as the Sandaka, Bonasika and the Baramani.
