The 25-year-old pickup driver who allegedly struck and killed Lovina Tull at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara

last Wednesday night was remanded to prison after appearing in the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Hafraz Mangru, of Lot 176 Sparendaam (‘Pradoville 2), East Coast Demerara, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He was also fined $75,000 after pleading guilty to driving an unlicenced vehicle.
He is scheduled to return to court on March 18. Kaieteur News understands that Mangru’s attorney plans to approach the High Court to have him placed on bail.
According to reports, 37-year-old Tull, of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, had just left work at the City Holiday Inn, also located at Liliendaal, and was awaiting transportation to get home at around 21:30 hours, when the pick-up struck her. She was hurled into the Ocean View Hotel’s compound.
It is alleged that the driver was found to be 200 percent over the allowable alcohol consumption limit for motorists.
