Berbice recorded it first case of murder after a security guard employed with RKs Security firm was found dead around 03:00 hrs.at the Rose Hall Town Branch of the furniture giant’s Lucky Dollar store.
The dead man who was identified as Chandban Persaud, 56, of Whim Village, Corentyne was found at the back of the furniture giant, gagged and bound. According to a source close to the investigation the police received information that thieves were in the Lucky Dollar Store at Rose Hall Town. A patrol that was in the area responded promptly, but by then the perpetrators had already left. The police proceeded to make checks around the building and found the security guard bound and gagged.
Further checks revealed that the building was broken into and some items missing. Up to press time it was not ascertained what was missing.
The dead man’s wife Satawatie Persaud told Kaieteur News by telephone that she last saw her husband around 17:00 hrs when he left for work. She said that they do not have any children.
She said that he worked with the security firm for some time before but had left due to some financial misunderstanding between him and the firm. He returned to the job a few months ago.
It was also learnt that in the latter part of last year burglars attempted to gain entry into the building, but were unsuccessful.
According to a police report, about 02:00hrs yesterday Chandrabhan Persaud’s body was found at his work site at the Lucky Dollar Store, Rose Hall, Corentyne. His hands and feet were tied and his mouth gagged.
