As efforts are being made to sustain the legacy of the institution, the administration of the Critchlow Labour College (CLC) received a batch of brand new computer systems on Monday, to assist in the process.
The computers systems were donated to the institution by Wilson Alexander Shervington, of “Shervington Third World Trust” a UK-based non-profit organization, which was established to support the development of education and health care in poor countries.
Fifteen computer systems were handed over to team from the administrative department at the CLC complex on Woolford Avenue Georgetown.
Shervington, a Guyanese by birth, expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to the development and enhancement of the historic college.
“I am pleased to make this contribution towards the development of this institution and education sector as a whole. It’s just a small token of what is to come,” he added
In accepting the presentation, Head of the Administrative team at CLC, Rawle Lucas said that works are in progress to restore the college to its original standards.
“Capacity building is very important, therefore in addition to strengthening the capacity of our computer lab, we also think it’s important to strengthen the capacity of our staff and the resources were given will to boost that capacity. It is important for to us to ensure that we make good use of it.”
He said that plans are in the pipeline for the introduction of new courses to the school curriculum as well as for international accreditation for graduates of CLC.
College Administrator, Shawn Austin, explained that a new board is in place and work is being conducted to address challenges facing the institution.
“We are working on re-establish all our programmes we have about eleven programmes, which will begin soon, we are putting administrative and other mechanisms in place so as to have the smooth functioning of the college come January 13.”
CLC has faced numerous challenges in recent years after Government pulled its financial support some nine years ago.
However, the administrative team is enduring the fight to preserve the legacy of the historic institution. CLC currently offers an advanced diploma project management, advance courses in mental health, communications and effective speaking as well as Mathematics and English.
