Dear Editor,
The failure by the Charity police to enforce the law to institute prosecution against perpetrators of noise nuisance emerging from business places just under the nose of the station, is responsible for an escalation of the unbearable situation ever so much detrimental to the environment with me being a victim as well.
This line of action is the only way out to serve as a deterrent and it is within the right of the police to do so as a responsibility and not a favour to protect the society. To shirk from doing so becomes questionable and open to scrutiny with ranks there not confirming their operations within the ambit of the law. Unless law is not respected and properly executed, further lawlessness and chaos will be inevitable with any form of violation.
On Monday December 9, 2013 around 15:00hrs I went to the Charity Police Station to make a report about loud music being played at a bar which is neighbouring to me. I was shocked. When I was about to make my report I was told by the inspector and the station sergeant that the Commander was at Charity and that he visited the places where reports were made about loud music.
The inspector said that he had come to a agreement with the management of these places as to the volume these places could play their music. As i am writing this letter, my home is bombarded with the loud music emanating from this bar next door.
At the station, after listening to the remarks by the inspector and station sergent, I insisted on the police taking my report and statement, but the report was refused by the police on the instruction of the inspector who further told me that I should seek an audience with the divisional commander. I was assisted by the inspector to see if I was able to meet with the commander that afternoon, but could not because he was out of the district.
It is my strong conviction now that the hands of the ranks at the Charity Police Station, might be tied by senior officers in this division making ranks at the Charity Police Station unable to take the necessary action to prosecute the offenders of this offence.
I must state that within the past month, several reports and statements were given to the police and several court days had passed yet I was not asked to attend court to give evidence as the police had taken no action on my reports.
