PMTC 1 takes first lien on trophy
After a hiatus of some 13-years, competitive Volleyball returned to Skeldon with the staging of the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA)/Rollers Old Boys Champion of Champions Lien Trophy competition at the Skeldon Back Centre Court last weekend.
On Saturday (Nov. 9), three lower placed teams played a round-robin competition to qualify for Sunday. Newcomers, Skeldon Jets emerged winners and qualified to clash with the more established
and experienced teams in another round-robin tourney on Sunday.
Facing off were Rollers, Port Mourant Training Centre 1, Port Mourant Training Centre 2, Port Mourant Jaguars and Skeldon Jets; official remarks prior to the games were made by Rollers Volleyball Club Founder/Captain, Mr. Clifton Phillips.
Following the initial stages, PMTC 1 and Rollers moved on to the final which was won by PMTC1.The scores were 23-25, 25-17 and 15-7 in favour of PMTC1. Port Mourant Jaguars took third and Skeldon Jets, fourth.
At the presentation ceremony, trophies and medals were presented to the top three teams by Mr. Phillips on behalf of the Rollers Old Boys.
Quacy Matheson was adjudged the Most-Valuable-Player as well as the Best Spiker, while Jason Seelochan was the Best Setter. They both received trophies for their outstanding play.
Skeldon Jets were complimented for their participation and urged to take part in more BVA organised competitions.
Meanwhile, teams will be gearing up for play in the Chattergoon Memorial Trophy tournament which will be contested this Sunday at the Albion Sports Complex Court.
