IGG programme opens, Guyana lose female volleyball
Following Speeches from Directors of Sport – Mike Watson of Suriname and Neil Kumar of Guyana – where both men expressed words of friendship, looking forward to the continuance of the Games, not just sport, but learning each others’ culture, the featured address was given by Sur Minister of Sport and Min of Education of Suriname, the Inter Guiana Games were declared open by the minister.

During the opening ceremony Awards for pioneers of IGG – 20 years since the rebirth of Games – were handed out. Guyana’s Sports Director Neil Kumar, Orlando Renfurm and two other gentlemen were duly awarded.
Meanwhile, the competition got underway with Female Volleyball and the home side brushed aside Guyana 25-9, 25-7. The males also went down in the clash last evening 27-25, 19-25, 25-15, 20-25 and 7-15.
Today the athletes, swimmers and basketballers will be in action as the competition heats up.
