– quality races on the cards for today
A thrilling day of competitive horse racing is on the cards when the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the People’s Progressive Party, stages the one-day President Cup Horse Race Meet at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast Berbice, today.
Nine races are carded for the day with over $8 million in cash, trophies and other memorabilia at stake as the country’s best thoroughbreds take to the track.

Already, the betting boys are casting their wagers in the feature event over one mile where horses the likes of Summer Classic, Cat Messiah, Elle’s Vision, Unsettled, America’s Joy, Another Jet, Got To Go and Treacle, have been doing good gallop and rearing to go. The feature event is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited and offers a winning purse of $1.5M and trophy.
Trophy Stall is also a part of the sponsorship team and has put up the prize for several top individual performers including the top stable, best jockey, champion horses and best trainer. Shariff and Jumbo Jet are also among the sponsorship team.
Several other races are listed for the day including the event between the three-years-old West Indies bred maiden animals and Guyana Bred three year old animals over one mile; the winner carts off $600,000.
The 1100 meter race for D3 maiden horses and those classified E and lower has a first place purse of $600,000.The F and Lower race over 1400M has a pole position prize of $400,000 while the two events among the two years old animals over 1100M will net the top jockeys $300,000 each. Another event for West Indies bred horses will see the winner pocketing $400,000.The winner of the G3 and lower 1100M event will get $400,000 while the race for animals classified ‘I’ and lower for the $200,000 top money is slated for over 1400 M. The day’s final event is for horses classified in the J and Lower category over 1100M for a top prize of $140,000.
Other top horses on show are Grande Roja, Zelick, Diamond Dazzling, Who So Ever, Mission King, Renia Del Café, The Baliff, Traditional Man, Technology, Miss Karina, C.P Got Even, County Armagh, Fresh Again, Captain Crook and Prado’s Gold.
