Courts (Guyana) Inc. continued in its effort to lead in the development of sports after confirming another year of sponsorship for the Petra Organisation – organised Pee Wee Football Tournament, during a simple Launching Ceremony yesterday in the Company’s Training Room.
The entity has been among the leading corporate entities to offer substantial support towards the development of sports recently with the 10K Run, golf tournament, Boyce & Jefford Classic, Friday Night Fights and Tennis, being among the disciplines to enjoy the Company’s munificence.

Present at the occasion were Managing Director Clyde De Haas, Marketing Director Molly Hassan, Petra Organisation Co- Director Troy Mendonca, Ministry of Education representative Allison Rawlins, Banks DIH PRO Troy Peters, Marketing Officer Public Relations Kester Abrams, teachers and students.
The competition will see an increase in the amount of participating teams with twenty-four schools confirmed as compared to sixteen that competed last year.
Courts (Guyana) Inc. has also increased the size of the sponsorship which has now risen to in excess of $3.3million with the top four teams expected to receive trophies and gifts, while all the participating schools will also benefit from the Company’s goodwill.
The twenty-four schools are: defending champions Marian Academy, St. Agnes, West Ruimveldt, St. Margaret’s, St. Sidwell’s, Tucville, South Ruimveldt, North Georgetown, Ketley, St. Gabriel’s, F.E. Pollard, Enterprise, St. Pius, Sophia, Success, Redeemer, New Guyana, Stella Maris, St. Winefride’s, Winfer Gardens, J.E. Burnham, East Ruimveldt, Green Acres and St. Angela’s.
Meanwhile, De Haas in his remarks expressed delight with the Company’s continued association with the tournament, adding that in keeping with the entity’s motto ‘Bringing Value Home’ the initiative is surely doing so through sports.
He said they are happy to add value to the lives of the young participants who he believed will someday go on to play in the national league and perhaps in the foreign leagues as well.
De Haas in commending the work being done by the Organisers stressed the significance of the tournament, pointing out that it all starts at the grassroots level.
The Managing Director also recognised the growth of the tournament this year which will see the addition of eight more schools being involved.
Special mention was also made to the parents, teachers and coaches who all play their parts in making the students participation possible.
Peters speaking on behalf of the beverage giants disclosed that the Company’s involvement will be done under the Malta brand and conveyed their pleasure to be partnering with Courts and Petra Organisation.
According to Peters, the solid attendance of the media resembles that of a mini World Cup Launch and extended thanks to the operatives for their unwavering support.
He said he was looking forward to a good display of skills and fair play even though he recognised that it was a developmental programme, while urging the students to also pursue their academic endeavour with the same vigour.
Rawlins in her presentation spoke of the Ministry’s clear support for such activities since it allow the students to nurture their talent.
She noted that even though it is typical that expectations will be high, especially with the addition of eight schools, they must be cautioned to maintain the same degree of discipline that was exhibited last year.
Rawlins said the Ministry would like to see that the sport continues to be nurtured at the grassroots level.
Mendonca gave a synopsis of the format of the tournament which he stated will run from September 28- November 2 at the Thirst Park ground and games will be played on Saturdays only.
He revealed that the twenty-four teams will be divided into six groups of four with the top two teams along with the four best third placed teams moving forward to the Round of 16, while the lower teams will play for the minor positions as was done last year.
Mendonca disclosed that each school will be presented with two balls for preparations, while there will be a coaching seminar for teachers and coaches to be conducted by the Guyana Football Coaches Association aimed at enhancing the standard of the players.
