Bandits escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash and other valuables at around 20:00 hrs last night after shooting Wakenaam resident Anand Danishore in his home.
According to reports, Danishore had just returned from a wedding when several armed men invaded his premises, located near the Wakenaam Ferry Stelling. They reportedly relieved the occupants of their valuables and shot Danishore in the left arm.
Residents said that the robbers several shots while fleeing the scene. Kaieteur News understands that some residents heard a speedboat moving off shortly after.
The wounded man reportedly returned to the wedding house on a motorcycle and informed the guests that he had been shot. He was then taken to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital.
