Richard Ramamand and Ezam David took the honours in the U-10 and U-13 categories respectively as the Annual Payless Variety Store Table Tennis training camp concluded yesterday at Goed Fortuin on the West Bank of Demerara.

The participants display their prizes along side representatives from the sponsor Payless Variety Store and officials of the GTTA, whose head, Godfrey Monroe is extreme right.
After going through their paces in Grip, Stance, Back hand and fore hand push and drive during the camp which started on August 19, the players participated in a competition in the U-10 and U-13 division last evening at the Goed Fortuin Community Centre. Ramamand beat Reanna Griffith 11-3,11-3 and Alexandre De Abreau 11-5,11-9 respectively. De Abreau overcame Griffith 11-6, 11-7 to take second place while Griffith claimed third.
David hammered Isaiah Sahadeo 11-3,11-5 before taking care of Nicholas Jordan 11-6,11-9. Jordan then overcame Sahadeo 11-2,11-1 to take the runner spot; Sahadeo took third place.
The top three finishers in each category received trophies, while Nicholas Jordan and Ryan Nelson were given prizes for being the most discipline and improved players respectively.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Coach Muniram Persaud thanked the sponsors and congratulated the participants.
Harry Rameshwar of Payless Variety Store said that they are pleased to be associated with the camp once again. He stated that they are also involved in other sports such as football and cricket. Rameshwar pointed out that as a business they must give back to the community and the Store will continue to sponsor the clinic. He said that plans to continue the programme throughout the year are in the making.
President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Godfrey Monroe thanked coaches Muniram Persaud and Raymond Mc Lennon for their efforts and said the GTTA would like to partner with Payless to move the sport forward. Monroe said he is impressed with the talent on show and wants to see the sport grow from strength to strength.
Twenty six participants, including two females took part in the camp.
