APNU understands the role of the police in crime fighting
DEAR EDITOR,
I refer to a letter in your Wednesday 21st August Edition titled “APNU should direct its anger at the Police Commissioner for the alarming crime rate.”
Clement Rohee has been the Home Affairs Minister for the past seven years, and Guyana’s alarming crime rate is nothing new. It is therefore a bit far-fetched for the writer to use the fact that “the commissioner is doing a poor job in controlling crime in the country….” as leverage to absolve the Home Affairs Ministry of its responsibility.
APNU also understands that neither the Government nor the Home Affairs Ministry should micromanage the Guyana Police Force, but isn’t it the job of the Government and the Home Affairs Ministry to reform the Guyana Police Force? Should A Partnership for National Unity blame the Police Commissioner for the fact that the force should be reformed?
Additionally, Guyana’s crime rate sky rocketed, and continues to sky rocket under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government – a Government in place years before Mr. Brumell was appointed to his current post.
I agree with APNU, the Home Affairs Ministry needs to get to work and reform the Guyana Police Force. Citizens must feel safe.
