Inter Guiana Games Cycling 2013…Guyana aiming for another sweep

Defending Inter Guiana Games Cycling Champions Guyana will be going all out to retain both male and female crowns when they take on their Surinamese counterparts in the 2013 edition of the competition slated to be contested tomorrow.
The Team Time Trials will be contested at the Inner Circuit of the National Park from 08:00hrs while the Road Race is set for the West Demerara at 14:00hrs beginning at Nismes on the West Bank,

proceeding to Vergenoegen before returning to the starting line for the finish; female competitors will turn back at Leonora.
In terms of the Time Trials, the Males will cover a distance of 10km while the females will cover 6km. The Road Race will see the males battling over 60km while on the distaff side, they will cover 40km.
This year, the male Guyana team is made up of seasoned campaigner Paul De Nobrega and Michael Anthony both returning from last year, they will be joined by Hamza Eastman and Akeem Arthur.
Raynauth Jeffrey is eligible but is currently out of the jurisdiction on holiday while the other member from last year who would have also been eligible, Raul Leal was involved in a vehicular accident a few months ago and is still recovering.
The two new male members are able and capable riders who have been turning in some encouraging performances in this new season. Eastman, in particular, a multi talented athlete, has been impressive so far this year.
The female team comprises of Marica Dick and Toshwanna Doris both returning from last year. This duo will be aiming to stamp their authority once again and have been competing consistently so far this year.
In terms of competitive hours, the entire six-member Guyana team is not short in that regard and will start as favourites to retain their titles. Fans are being encouraged to come out in their numbers to support.
Meanwhile, last year the males won the Team Trials 12 Minutes 17.20 Seconds, while the females covered the distance in 8 Minutes 04.81 Seconds.
Raynauth Jeffrey and Raul Leal crossed the finish line together to win the road race, while Marica Dick and Toshwanna Doris finished first and second respectively for females.
