Body found in burnt Crabwood Creek house, arson suspected in Soesdyke blaze
The body of a man known only as ‘Martin’ was retrieved yesterday from a house at Crabwood Creek which was destroyed by fire.
Police said that the wooden house at Grant 1780, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, was destroyed at around 01: 40hrs yesterday. The cause of the blaze was undetermined.
“The remains of a man known as ‘Martin’ and who lived alone in the building was subsequently found among the debris,” police said.
The fire was one of three that occurred yesterday.
At around 02:00 hrs yesterday, a woman and her three daughters were left homeless after a fire destroyed their two-storey house at Lot 204 Soesdyke. The family had only recently moved in to the building.
According to reports, the property belongs to an American-based Guyanese whose name was given as Ty Rambarose.
Based on eyewitness accounts, around 02:00 hrs yesterday smoke was seen billowing from the top flat of the building before a bright light was seen through one of the windows.
Natalia Thomas, who was at the scene, said that flames spread quickly throughout the house and a massive explosive sent spectators scampering for safety.
“The fire moved quickly and burn up everything,” Thomas said.
The family of four was not home at the time of the fire.
