Dear Editor,
The President and Executive Members of the Berbice Cricket Board would like to express in the strongest possible way their disgust at the Guyana Cricket Board treatment of young Sylus Tyndall. Tyndall was left at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport while the rest of the Guyana team departed for the West Indies Cricket Board Under-15 tournament in Jamaica.
This was due to total incompetence at the Guyana Cricket Board and the Guyana Under-15 Team cricket Management.
Tyndall’s father left his child’s passport at the Guyana Cricket Board office during a blackout with a commitment from officials to pass it on to the Manager. Under-15 players are not experienced in overseas travel and it was the duty of the Manager, who is also a senior Guyana Cricket Board official to make sure that everything was in place.
Tyndall’s parents are very upset at the poor treatment of their son, especially after they have invested most of their meager saving to ensure their child had his cricket clothes for the tournament.
Can the Guyana Cricket Board understand the agony that young Sylus and his family are undergoing due to the incompetence of the Board office and the Manager.
The Berbice Cricket Board would continue to look after the interest of its players and expects that a full apology would be issued to the Tyndall’s family.
Angela Haniff
Secretary Berbice Cricket Board
Editor’s note: When contacted Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie informed that when Tyndall reached the airport in Guyana it was discovered that his passport was missing.
His travel document was found at the GCB office but by then he had missed his flight to Jamaica.
Sanasie explained that since the team departed Guyana (two rounds of the competition have been completed) the GCB has been trying to get a flight for the youngster but without success.
“I am willing to pay the difference for the flight if one becomes available since the WICB has allowed a slot for him in Guyana’s team. We are still trying to fly him to Jamaica but there is nothing we can since there are no flights,” Sanasie explained.
