Dear Editor,
I was watching the movie “Beyond Redemption” (Directed by Britta Sjogren) when I stumbled upon Freddie Kissoon’s reply to my letter on “The Thomas Carroll Affair” book written by David Casavis. The DVD player was within hand reach, so I immediately hit the pause button to read what turned out to be Freddie’s long and boring explanation about Casavis book.
It was yet another rambling about nothing relevant, and more to do with his perceived shortcomings in the book, something he’s entitled to. However, anyone who understands how to carefully critique a book would no doubt conclude that Kissoon is making a bunch of unnecessary noises about nothing, which is painfully reminiscent of the three nights he and I spent in the Brickdam Lockups for protesting over the dumpsite at Le Repentir.
In the lockups I’ve had to upbraid Freddie and cautioned him about behaving in such a manner, and that he should go to sleep and allow his brain and body to get some well deserved rest. It’s what I do when I’m locked up, and thought that as a friend I should ensure that he’s well protected in that area. However, Freddie doesn’t have the appetite to digest advice. It could be because he’s constantly listening to the sound of Frank Sinatra’s “I did it my way” in his head.
Now, back to his ramblings about the “Thomas Carroll Affair” book. Freddie’s objection is quite obvious; it simply has to do with the fact that someone else has decided to do what he and others have failed to do with the information they’ve held onto for years. Now, like a spoiled child Freddie is attempting to make his readers a bunch of fools by suggesting that we in Guyana cannot ‘name names’ and write the kind of book David Casavis wrote simple because we’ll be sued.
This line of reasoning by Freddie is utter rubbish, as is his attempt to lecture about the law that has failed to convince the jury.
This case about the book should be dismissed for lack of concrete evidence on the part of Freddie, the penalty should be a lifetime ban from ever critiquing any book again. But, the Freddie we have all come to know, will never accept the final verdict.
He’s going to continue with his ramblings on the subject in order to prove his point, even though majority of his readers are saying to him: “Freddie, what’s your point?” Now, back to my movie: ‘Beyond Redemption.’
