BASSETERRE, St Kitts – West Indies A, responding to Sri Lanka A’s 472 all out, reached 496 for five in their first innings at the close of the third day of the first four-day “Test” at Warner Park here yesterday.
West Indies A resumed on their overnight score of 147-1 with Assad Fudadin on 82 and skipper Kirk Edwards on 24, the pair continued to frustrate the visitors with levelheaded batting as they added100 in 204 balls with six fours and one six in 146 minutes.
Edwards reached his half century from 93 deliveries in 146 minutes; the duo brought up their team’s 200 in 69 overs.
Guyanese Fudadin soon reached his well deserved century with a delicious square-cut to backward point. It took him 291 minutes and 222 balls. The host went to lunch at 227-1 in 76 overs; a total of twenty eight overs were bowled in the first session in which 80 runs were scored.
After the break, Edwards got his century by tickling a ball down fine leg; it came in 238 minutes off 165 balls with eleven fours and one six. Fudadin after batting for 409 minutes was brilliantly caught at mid wicket for 145. He faced 297 balls and struck 16 fours and added 256 for the second wicket stand with Edwards.
Leon Johnson then joined Edwards and continued to bat wisely with Edwards reaching 150 (21×4, 1×6) off 216 balls in 316 minutes. They brought up their teams’ 400 (51×4, 1×6) in 462 minutes off 108.2 overs.
At stumps, West Indies A are leading by 24 runs with Edwards not out on 189 and Johnson on 80. Today is the fourth and final day.
