Police have recovered an FN rifle that was stolen from a constable on Monday during a daring heist at the Wismar Post Office.
The police have also arrested three persons who they are convinced were linked to the robbery.
Police in a statement issued yesterday said that around 07:30 hours yesterday, “the police FN Rifle that was taken away from a Constable during an armed robbery at the Wismar Post Office yesterday was recovered off the roadway in the vicinity of the “Millie’s Hideout” turn leading into Linden.”
The magazine and ammunition were not recovered.
On Monday, armed men swooped down on the facility and carted off more than $2M.
The robbery is the third suffered by the entity, in as many years.
The brazen bandits stormed the Post Office, at Jordan Road, Silvertown, after sticking up the lone police rank, who was standing guard at the door.
All this drama unfolded even as several old age and NIS pensioners watched in disbelief, as the money that was to be paid out to them was carted off by the bandits.
According to informed sources, one of the bandits broke a glass window at the counter, and jumped over to gain access to the money, which was in a vault.
Yesterday, the Guyana Police Force expressed its appreciation to the citizens of the Linden community who assisted with the investigations and led to the quick recovery of the firearm.
