Candidates of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate should not be denied their timetable. This is the assertion of the Ministry of Education, which in a statement yesterday, disclosed that there have been reports of such occurrences.
The statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Department stated that it has come to the attention of the Ministry that some public and private schools have not yet provided all students sitting the 2013 CSEC examination with their timetables.
It was disclosed that reports to the Ministry suggest that schools have withheld timetables because of the non-payment of fees for school-based activities. But according to the Ministry’s statement, “this is not a welcomed practice of the Ministry of Education and as such, we are advising that schools reverse such actions and ensure that ALL CSEC candidates be provided with their timetable in a timely manner.”
Moreover, the Ministry has emphasised that CSEC candidates should not be prevented from uplifting their timetables.
This year a total of 13,654 candidates have been enlisted to sit the CSEC Examinations, and according to the Ministry, it has recorded that some candidates are taking as many as 20 subjects at this sitting.
As such the Ministry has extended well wishes to students even offering in advance, gratitude for “making Guyana proud.”
