The Inter-Services Athletic Championships (ISAC) will continue today at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Base Camp Ayangana Ground with the Police aiming to arrest the slim lead which escaped from them on the opening day on Sunday.
To do so, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will depend heavily on its super-strong track and field team
that goes into action today; GDF holds a slim two-point lead over the Police after it won the opening Road Relay, taking maximum points from the event.
The Defence Force has 10 points opposed to the Police eight points; Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on six points and Guyana Prison Service (GPS) on four points. Today’s continuation will include four finals and a few heats with keen battles expected.
The Men’s 1500m Final is likely to be the featured event of the day with Guyana’s distance ace, Cleveland Forde leading the Defence Force charge; Tyshon Bentick or Jamaul Chisholm will be his support in the race Forde is favoured to win.
However, Dennis Horatio, who will be representing the Police, is a major hurdle for Forde in the event. In fact, Horatio has defeated Forde before when they last met over the distance at the 2011 President’s/Jefford Track and Field Classic in Linden.
The showdown between the two athletes will continue today with Kevin Bayley also among the starters for the Police. The competition at ISAC has always been between the Police and Defence Force, but it must be mentioned that two other Services are participating.
The Women’s 1500m Final will be held today along with the Discus Male and Female Final; the Long Jump Final and 4X100m Ranks Relay. ISAC will continue tomorrow with more Heats and a few Finals, before Thursday’s rest day and Friday’s Grand Finale.
