The recent periodic showers during this dry season are not a sign that the dry season is over.
According to an official at the hydro meteorological office in Timehri, periodic showers are normal during weak El Nino conditions; the kind Guyana has been experiencing over the past few weeks. However, the official said that Regions Two and Four would have experienced most of the rains.
Kaieteur News also spoke with the Projects/Research Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Aditya Persaud, who reminded that the dry spell will continue until February of next year, as was predicted.
When asked, Persaud told this publication that there have been no reports about crops or livestock damage, and that there is expected to be none, since the conservancy has enough water to facilitate the dry weather until 2013.
Meanwhile, while many may not be pleased with the scorching weather, rice farmers have their fingers crossed for it not to rain, as they are in the process of harvesting.
