As preparations for the Guyana Cup horserace meet continues to move ahead in anticipation of the largest horserace event in Guyana, the racetrack is said to be in excellent shape as more sponsors come on board.
The recently upgraded turf at Port Mourant Turf Club looking in excellent shape and expected to produce blistering races.
The organisers have already mobilised several major sponsors and continue to register some of the best racehorses for the event. Work on the upgrading of the Port Mourant Turf Club Track has progressed well. According to Mr. Rajendra Jagdeo, who is in charge of the turf club preparations, work on the track included the relaying of the track with sand, while work was also done to spruce up the stands and stables.
The Guyana Cup is the largest local horserace event with over 30 million dollars in prizes up for grabs. The event, which will see both local and overseas horses and jockeys competing, is sponsored by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Banks DIH, Digicel, Hand in Hand and several other major Guyanese companies.
The Guyana Cup will be held next Sunday, August 26. Admission is $2,000 and the gates open from 12:00noon.
