K&B Mining and Hardware Supplies announced that it will be supporting the 58th edition of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Track and Field Championships yesterday when the became one of the sponsors of the event that commences Saturday morning.

K&B Mining Representative, Seema Churaman hands over the sponsorship cheque to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Colin Boyce yesterday at their Regent Street store.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mining Company, Hema Persaud, stated that it is one of the corporate obligations of the company to contribute to social development; she said sport is one of the ways that in which they give back to society.
“We are please to support this competition. We believe that it is part of our right to help develop certain aspects of society. This is not the only event we have supported and will continue to give our support once we are satisfied that the gesture is right,” Persaud said.
Assistant Superintend of Police, Colin Boyce, who is also Head of the Police Sports Secretariat and President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), indicated that he was pleased that K&B Mining has decided to sponsor the prestigious meet.
“On behalf of the Guyana Police Force, I am extremely grateful for your unyielding support of the Police Athletics Championships. With your contribution, the Police Force has continued to churn out champions that have gone on to make Guyana proud,” he said.
The Guyana Police Force celebrates its 173 Anniversary and 58 years since the existence of their athletics meet. The first event for the competition, the 10km mixed road relay, will be staged on Saturday morning starting at the Police Officers’ Mess to the University of Guyana access road and back to the Officers’ Mess.
The event that has an ‘A’ and ‘B’ category will continue with the heats on July 24 and 25, while the finals will be held on July 27. Guyana will take on its Caribbean counterparts in the ‘A’ Class competition while the ‘B’ Class contest is the Inter-Division competition.
There are 72 events to be completed for the event. Athletes will be competing for the Commissioner’s Trophy in the ‘A’ Class competition and the Ramesh Sunich-sponsored Inter-Division trophy in the ‘B’ Class competition.
