Guyana national rugby team suffered a 19-0 loss to Portugal in the
opening game of the 2012 HSBC World Sevens Series which is currently underway in Hong Kong. The Guyanese failed to score against a team that is touted to emerge as one of three teams to join the Elite Group in World Sevens Rugby.
The Portuguese were led to victory through two tries from Pedro Leal, who also made two conversions, while Martim Bettencourt added another try. The Guyanese were scheduled to play Russia in another game in Group F.
The Russians joined Portugal at the top of the table with three points apiece after they defeated Japan 14-7.
