yesterday launched at the National Cultural Centre that showcased Regional Choirs from all ten regions as well as a choir from the Georgetown Educational District. The concert which was competitive was won by Region Ten with their entries of ‘Song of Hope’ and ‘Lang Time’. The other winning entrants were from Region Six and Georgetown.
The Ministry of Education launched the Regional Choirs project after conducting musical workshops within selected schools throughout the country. The Ministry’s effort was simply to revive the dying art of singing in schools, especially learning how to sing correctly Guyana’s National Songs. In this effort they were supported by UNESCO. Choirs were developed from within those schools, and from among them students were selected as their region’s representative choir. The Regional Choirs are expected to be available to perform at all Regional and National Events, including in-schools performances twice a year.
