Stephen Julian, 18, called “Ring Neck” who was last year convicted on a charge of manslaughter and is serving a sentence of seven years, was on Friday fined $10,000 or a further stint in prison by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo after he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court on a charge of Possession of Narcotics.
The court was told by prosecutor Inspector, Jairam Ramlakhan, that on Thursday January 20, Julian was among some prisoners who had gone out to do some chores at a workshop in the town.
On his way back, around 16:00hrs he was searched and a transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited substance was found in a transparent plastic bag, at the bottom of a haversack he was carrying.
The substance was subsequently weighed and amounted to four grams. He was charged for the offence.
Julian, of 64 Line Path Skeldon, Corentyne was sentenced in 2010 in the Berbice High Court for the killing of his one time friend, Keron Calderia, of the same address. He had pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
