Dear Editor,
As this past general and national election heralds a new dawn for our political system, I urge our new President Donald Ramotar to act carefully as he continues to make changes to his government, particularly the appointment of persons to boards and committees.
Such appointments should be based solely on one’s qualifications and experience. It is also imprudent to have one person to be Chairperson of multiple boards while holding a full-time position in another organization.
The responsibilities of a Chair can be very demanding and as such one needs to be able to devote adequate time for this activity. No matter how talented someone claims to be membership in excess of three boards while being a full-time senior executive can be counterproductive and a disaster.
The PPP/C already is damaged. Let us not damage the PPP/C further by falling victim to opportunism and greed.
Congratulations Mr. President and May God guide you in your tenure.
