Two bandits were caught red-handed yesterday by police after they had “cleaned out” the Super Songs CD and Electronic Store, which is located at Lot 1 Cornhill Street, Stabroek.
The men had already carted off $1.5M worth in electrical items from the store which is just a few meters from the police mobile outpost.
According to information received, the men gained entry into the building by breaking the lock on the door, after which video cameras, flash drives, potable DVD players, and MP3 players were stolen.
But someone had seen them and contacted the police, who arrived promptly to apprehend the men at around 03:30am.
It is believed that there may have been another suspect who collected the items before the police arrived since the men were caught empty handed.
According to the proprietor, Krishna Singh, he was unaware of what had transpired so he arrived at the premises as normal and noticed two officers in the store.
“When I reached there I saw two police, one was taking fingerprints and the other was inside. They told me that the store was broken into and the guys were caught but the items were not retrieved,” the proprietor indicated.
The guys were taken to the Brickdam Police Station for questioning and will definitely be charged. The businessman noted that prior to yesterday’s incident, he was robbed twice in 2009, suffering losses amounting to $4.3M.
Meanwhile, staffers at Evergreen Adventure, a local tour operator, yesterday discovered that the canister, containing money from previous transactions was missing from the ‘safe’ at its Pegasus Hotel location.
According to information received, the perpetrator(s) entered the entity’s office through the “back door”, then made their way out with the canister which had contained an undisclosed sum of cash.
This publication understands that the hotel does not have a camera in the location where the thieves entered.
However officials promise to “run” the other cameras to trace “suspicious movements of persons in the vicinity.”
According to an employee at the hotel, the move was made by someone who is “well aware” of the hotel’s layout.
Up to press time, the matter was still being investigated.
