Following Narsingh Deonarine propelling them to a comfortable victory over Canada on Tuesday, Guyana, while enhancing their chances in the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament need to win against the Windward Islands today to advance to the final four in Barbados.
Guyana play in the second game of the double header today at 8:00pm, while Canada open against Trinidad and Tobago at 4:00pm.
Tuesday’s result meant that Guyana have eight points from three matches but are in third place behind Trinidad also with eight, but with a better run rate and leaders Windwards with 12 points.
The Windwards will look to maintain their unbeaten run at the top and this game should be a stern test for the Guyanese.
Guyana will look to Narsingh Deonarine, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Trevon Griffith, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Chris Barnwell and Leon Johnson especially to fire at the top of the order and put a challenging score on the board if they have to bat first or provide a good impetus for a chase if that is required.
The bowlers led by Devendra Bishoo, Stephen Jacobs, Barnwell and Royston Crandon will look to contain the opposition.
Skipper Darren Sammy with the support of Devon Smith, Johnson Charles, Shane Shillingford and Andre Fletcher will spearhead the Windwards charge. A keen contest is anticipated.
