Dear Editor,
It is with great pain and anguish that I am forced to pen these few lines on the state of our garden city or should I say garbage city. The youth arm of APNU is marching the streets daily making unsubstantiated demands, I am surprised that they don’t see it necessary to protest against the City Council for making our capital city uninhabitable, filthy and a total turn off for anyone choosing to visit whether for business or pleasure, even worse for us the residents.
Most terrifying of all are the number of health hazards that can emanate from this garbage-filled environment.
For too long the Government of Guyana has been bailing out this grossly mismanaged administration so as to alleviate the Guyanese public, but how much longer can we tolerate having a council that has corrupt and self-opinionated officials.
As taxpaying residents of Georgetown we demand that the Mayor and City Council either “PUT UP” or be “GET OUT” and allow our once beautiful city to return to its glory days. It’s time we put aside our political affiliation, the elections are long gone and demand services for the money paid.
We should not allow these power-stricken individuals to play politics with our lives – think of our children growing up in an environment where the streets, drains, markets, even schools are full of rodent-infested garbage and a city council that is obviously incompetent of remedying this situation.
Our health is beyond the colour of our skin, what party we voted for or even where we worship, hence I am appealing to all fellow residents that we say NO to this corrupt and incompetent body and YES to a clean and healthy Georgetown.
Frustrated Resident
