Police at Linden have detained a 21-year-old man in connection with some 16 armed robberies in the bauxite mining community.
The youth was arrested yesterday in Canvas City, Wismar with a .22 revolver and 11 matching rounds in his possession.
Police also recovered a gold chain worth $200,000, a cell phone and $3,000 that the suspect had allegedly stolen from a Wismar resident on November 30. Sources identified the victim as Kurtis Jeffrey of Block 22 Wismar.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect, who was positively identified by some of his victims, has confessed to committing a spate of armed robberies.
His victims reportedly include members of a Canvas City Church.
According to reports, the youth gravitated to a life of crime in his teens and is a former inmate of the New Opportunity Corps.
He is expected to appear in court today.
