Dear Sir,
A few days ago I read with disgust and dissatisfaction, the hypocritical endorsement of the A.P.N.U. by no other than the arrogant and heartless Henry B. Jeffrey. This is a man that would have served in several ministerial capacities under the current administration. In his tenure he immediately reminded me of some parts of Alex Haley’s ROOTS.
It was clear then and even worst now that to suppress the black man, is to identify one in the midst and give him power, he immediately separates himself from his fellow men and sells out on them where ever and whenever necessary.
As a young professional with three school age children and employed in the city I remember vividly when Henry Jeffrey was Minister Of Education implementing rules and imposing on people that your child must attend a school in the area you live. Logistically this is virtually impossible for a man to collect a nursery school child every mid-day on the East Coast and return to work.
The eye pass was so blatant that the children of Government officials and friends that live further than I do on the East Coast were given places in St. Margaret’s because it was convenient to their parents and whoever was tasked in picking them up.
As we look deeper it depresses me deeply to see under this same Minister the systematic degradation of schools that have predominantly black students eg Paradise Primary and Golden Grove Secondary. No right thinking individual would allow their kids to attend school under these conditions, and Jeffrey stood in this position motionless as more and more black kids dropped out of school because their parents were caught in the poverty cycle that were imposed upon them by this current administration.
Henry Jeffrey was sent to study by the Caribbean’s greatest statesman, L.F.S. Burnham and what he did when he returned after not given the job he desired under the Hoyte administration, was to jump to the P.P.P.
It is now well known that when he was literally kicked by an uncompromising and self centered president, he started to belch. People like these are traitors and self centered grabbers of power and don’t have their people in mind.
As the panic bells ring out everybody now remembers where he or she ought to be. The irony in this case in point is that this man should have used his wealth of knowledge and position to empower his people.
R.R.SHEPHERD
