Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, explained that this programme has been a successful initiative thus far. Some 800 persons throughout Guyana inclusive of yesterday’s batch have completed the training programmes.
“The number of people graduating is important but the main significance of the programme is what it delivers. There are other places which offer similar programmes and when this is added up, thousands of youngsters are added to the country’s skills pool,” said Rohee.
Minister Rohee urged the graduates to grasp and make use of opportunities such as training programmes since these may not be presented again.

He said that the training programme was only the first step towards a long path ahead of the youths and that they must expect to face many challenges since it is all a part of life.
The Minister charged the youths to continue to contribute to their communities and to the country.
Community Action Specialist, Rosanne Punwasie, said that the initiative is structured to attract school drop-outs, so as to provide them with the opportunity to learn a trade and at the same time engage them in meaningful activities. (Kristen Macklingam)
