A football competition with an attractive name will kick off tomorrow at several venues across Guyana. Now being dubbed 7:15 Football, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport annual Inter Block competition arrives this year with a little more spice.
At a press conference yesterday, Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle promised that this year’s event will be faster and much more exciting. “We have named it 7:15 football because matches will be played for 15 minutes each half and each team will be made up of seven players,” Ninvalle said.

Teams will be drawn from the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, West Coast Berbice, West Coast Demerara, Georgetown and Linden. Teams in Victoria, Buxton, Beterverwagting and Ann’s Grove are scheduled to play tomorrow when the knockout competition starts.
The winner in each area will receive $50,000 complements of the Government of Guyana and will go through to the final round where $150,000 will be presented to the team placing first. The government will provide balls for each area and assistance will be given for preparation of grounds.
Ninvalle said that President Bharrat Jagdeo was ‘highly’ instrumental in this year’s event being taken to another level.
The Inter Block competition is in its fourth year and according to Ninvalle, the main objective is to boost camaraderie in the communities in which the event is being held. The final is scheduled for the GFC on November 26.
