After witnessing an enterprising start to the season, the Guyana Football Association / Banks DIH President Beer
Super League resumes today with another double header, at the GFC ground.
In the opening encounter, hosts GFC takes on Flamingo at 18:00 hrs and that will be followed by the clash between Pele and Riddim Squad from 20:00 hrs.
The sport which went cold after suffering from administrative meddling has managed to re-emerge and is now on its way to being an effervescent activity within the Georgetown environs largely due to the munificence of beverage giants Banks DIH.
In the feature encounter which promises to be a mouth watering affair, Pele with the consistent and dependable Solomon Austin, who has the pivotal role of controlling the defence will be expected to spearhead that department, while players such as Sheldon Holder, Troy Kellman, Marvin Liverpool, Stellon David and Sheik Kamal should be able to create the chances needed to lead them to victory.
On the other hand, Riddim Squad are usually referred to as the giant killers in local football circles and they are not to be underestimated, especially with the Ramsays (Lyttleton and Amos) and Hope (Sceyon and Sheldon) siblings in their line-up.
They will be supported by the cast of Darren Peters and Darville Stewart and they form a terrifying force for opposing teams and it is anyone’s guess as to the outcome of this contest.
In the opening game, GFC playing at home has always been a formidable force and though Flamingo has been steadily improving the odds of beating the homesters are slim.
GFC will be relying on the services of Esan Griffith, Shad Fernandes, Paul Daniels and Sherwyalie Pinder to bolster their chances of winning, while Flamingo’s chances rest on the performance of players such as Dwayne Layne, Lennox Cort, Leon Gomes and Travis Duncan.
All in all it should be another pulsating day of football.
