Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries from accident

Wednesday evening, died yesterday in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to his relatives, Hunte, 26, had sustained severe injuries to his head and was bleeding profusely through his nose and ears. He underwent surgery at the GPHC and placed in the ICU where he succumbed at 13:10 hrs.
Hunte’s relatives are wondering if rushing him to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital at Diamond instead of going directly to the GPHC impeded his chances of survival. However, owing to him fluttering and bleeding excessively, the Diamond facility seemed like the better choice at the time. There his condition was stabilized and he was then rushed to GPHC.
Hunte was returning to his Lot 19 Old Road, Providence residence after going to Bagotstown to collect a barbeque.
He was at the time traveling with a pillion rider, Rawle Smith, who sustained minor injuries about his body.
According to eyewitnesses, Hunte was travelling south along the eastern carriageway some time around 19:00hrs when a minibus which was travelling in front of him turned into his path and he slammed into the vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, who would only identify himself as Leon, he heard a screeching sound followed by a collision and when he ventured to check he noticed two persons lying on the roadway, one of them seemed unconscious.
The eyewitness said that blood was spewing from Hunte’s head, and he used one of the injured men’s shirts to attempt to stop the bleeding.
Relatives stated that the police are holding the minibus driver and are likely to insititute charges against him.
